Toll Changes in Europe: All Rate Adjustments 2025–2027 at a Glance
Toll rates are not a static figure. Every country adjusts its tariffs regularly – usually at the turn of the year, but sometimes mid-year too. Anyone driving across Europe therefore has to calculate with the current rates at all times. This article summarises all known toll adjustments: the most recent changes, the rates currently in force and the future adjustments that have already been announced.
Good to know: TollCalc maintains its rule base continuously. Changes are built into the toll rules before they take effect and are applied automatically once they become valid.
🇳🇱 Netherlands: The most important change in September 2026
The Netherlands introduced the Vrachtwagenheffing on 1 July 2026 – a distance-based truck toll for vehicles over 3.5 t on motorways and trunk roads. Since then, there have already been two tariff periods:

New features in the rate tables
With the introduction of the Vrachtwagenheffing, the tables now include the class EURO 6+ – the designation for future Euro 7 trucks. It is only marginally cheaper than Euro 6 (€0.001–0.004/km). Since no Euro 7 trucks are on the road yet, Euro 6 remains the cheapest class for today's vehicles. The supplementary tolls (A24 Blankenburg tunnel, Westerscheldetunnel) are not affected by the change.

🇧🇪 Belgium: CO2 surcharge in Flanders since July 2026
Since 1 July 2026, Viapass applies a surcharge to the toll rates in the Flanders region based on the vehicle's CO₂ emission class. In Wallonia and Brussels, the previous rates continue to apply. TollCalc maps the regional differences via geofences.
🇩🇪 Germany: Annual adjustment on 1 January
The German truck toll is adjusted on 1 January each year. The currently valid rates (CO₂ class × weight-axle class × Euro emission class) have applied since 1 January 2026. Important: vehicles in CO₂ class 5 (zero-emission) are exempt from toll until 30 June 2031.
🇦🇹 Austria: GO-Maut on 1 January
ASFINAG adjusts the GO-Maut rates on 1 January each year – most recently on 1 January 2026. There are no mid-year changes.
🇨🇭 Switzerland: LSVA on 1 January
The heavy vehicle fee (LSVA) is also indexed annually on 1 January.
🇫🇷 France: Concession adjustment on 1 February
The French motorway operators (SANEF, VINCI, APRR, Atlandes and others) adjust their rates uniformly on 1 February – most recently on 1 February 2026. The adjustment date is contractually fixed; there are no changes in September.
🇮🇹 Italy: Annual adjustment on 1 January
The rates of the Italian concessions (including Autostrade per l'Italia, ITP) were last adjusted on 1 January 2026. For the A55/A5 (ITP) there was no increase in 2026.
🇪🇸 Spain: Annual adjustment on 1 January
The Spanish toll operators (Abertis, Audasa and others) adjust their rates on 1 January. For the state-managed motorways (AP-2, AP-7, AP-41), the annual increase is capped at 2% from 2026.

Note: The dates are based on the official sources of the respective toll operators and authorities (as of August 2026). Not all countries publish their adjustment dates in advance – TollCalc monitors the sources continuously and updates the rule base as soon as changes become known.
Outlook: Known changes from 2027
- Netherlands: The rates for 2027 will be published in October 2026 and, due to inflation, will be higher than the rates before 1 September 2026.
- Euro 7 (EU-wide): The new emission standard for heavy-duty vehicles takes effect from around 2028/2029 (new type approvals). The Dutch rate tables already provide for the EURO 6+ class.
- Germany: The toll exemption for CO₂ class 5 runs until 30 June 2031.
