Truck Toll Slovenia: The DarsGo System

Slovenia, as a transit country between Central and Southeast Europe, handles heavy truck traffic. Tolls are collected via the electronic DarsGo system – distance-based across the entire motorway and expressway network.

The toll system: DarsGo

DarsGo is the national toll system operated by DARS. It works as a free-flow system: vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are automatically detected via OBU or service provider. Charging is in euros.

Which roads are tolled?

  • Motorways (A-roads)
  • Expressways (H-roads)

Other roads are toll-free. Because Slovenia is compact, toll sections are short – costs often remain manageable.

Rate structure: axles, emission class, weight

The rate is calculated from three factors:

  1. Axle count – factor from 1.0 (2 axles) to 1.9 (5+ axles)
  2. Emission class (Euro standard) – factor 1.2 (Euro 0–1) to 0.85 (Euro 6)
  3. Vehicle weight – heavier vehicles pay higher base rates

The base rate on motorways is €0.168/km. A 40-tonne articulated lorry with 5 axles and Euro 6 pays around €0.27/km – Slovenia is in the European mid-range.
