Truck Toll Greece: Concession-Based Motorway Toll
Greece operates a concession-based toll system on the most important motorways. For truck transport towards Athens or Thessaloniki, the toll is a fixed cost factor – especially on the new north–south axes.
The toll system
Greek motorways are operated by private concessionaires, including the Aegean Motorway (A1) and other operators in the west. The system works with toll plazas (closed system): ticket on entry, payment on exit. Charging is in euros.
Which roads are tolled?
- A1 (Patras–Athens–Thessaloniki–Evzoni, border with North Macedonia)
- A2 (Egnatia Odos, Igoumenitsa–Thessaloniki–Alexandroupolis)
- Other concession motorways (A5, A8 etc.)
The Egnatia Odos (A2) is especially relevant for transit traffic between Italy and Turkey.
Rate structure: axle count
The rate depends on the vehicle category:

The base rate is €0.09/km on motorways or €0.07/km on expressways. A 40-tonne articulated lorry with 5 axles pays around €0.25/km.
