Truck Toll Bulgaria: TOLL per Kilometre
Bulgaria charges a distance-based toll (TOLL) for vehicles over 3.5 t – on tolled sections of motorways and class I and II roads. The system is operated by BG Toll. The rates are officially set in euros and paid in lev (BGN) at the fixed rate of 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN; prices include 20% VAT.
Which charge applies to which vehicle?
- Vehicles over 3.5 t (trucks, buses): distance-based TOLL – no vignette
- Vehicles up to 3.5 t (cars, light vans): time-based e-vignette instead of the km toll
How is the rate calculated?
Since 1 June 2026, the vehicle's CO₂ emission class is also included in the calculation (implementing EU Directive 2022/362):
- CO₂ class 1 is tiered by EURO class (Euro VI/EEV = cheapest tier; Euro V, Euro III–IV and Euro 0–II increase stepwise)
- Classes 2–4 (verified CO₂ classification / low-emission LEV) pay lower rates
- Class 5 (zero-emission trucks: electric/hydrogen) pays the lowest rates
- Trucks first registered before 1 July 2019 are automatically assigned to CO₂ class 1; vehicles in classes 2–4 are re-assessed every six years
Further rate factors: vehicle type/weight (3.5–12 t or >12 t by number of axles) and road class (motorway / class I / class II).

How is the toll paid?
Through a national service provider with an on-board unit (OBU) or via a route ticket for the planned journey. Detection is automatic (licence plate/OBU) – the registration must be done before the trip. Since 2026, the CO₂ class should be registered with the service provider to get the correct rate.
Discounts and Benefits
Note: User-dependent discounts are the exception in Europe – rates are typically determined solely by vehicle data (weight, axles, Euro/CO₂ class). Where operators do offer discounts, these apply per concession and are subject to specific conditions. As of October 2026; the conditions of the respective operator are authoritative.
